MEHR: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Raşit Meredow announced Tehran's readiness to host the next Caspian Sea littoral states summit.

Amir-Abdollahian met and held talks with his Turkmen counterpart Raşit Meredow during his trip to Turkmenistan, discussing bilateral relations, and regional and international developments.

In this meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, transit, and transportation, adding that the issue of water resources management is also one of the important issues in our region and the two countries must have continuous cooperation in this regard.

He called the Caspian Sea an area for constructive cooperation between the coastal countries, stressing that the communication between the two countries in this sea is in line with the mutual interests of the two parties.

He stressed that continuing discussions on the Caspian Sea's legal, security, and economic issues is essential, announcing Tehran's readiness to host the next Caspian Sea littoral states summit.

The Iranian diplomat also called the actions of some third parties to have a military presence in the Caspian Sea against the region's interests.

Raşit Meredow, for his part, referred to the positive bilateral relations, considering the meetings of senior officials of the two countries, including the presidents and ministers of foreign affairs as a sign of strong ties and relations between the two countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan further emphasized the continuation of cooperation between the two countries in international organizations.

Meredow also termed the Caspian Sea a sea of peace, understanding, and cooperation, emphasizing the need for increasing economic cooperation in the Caspian Sea and enhancing the volume of bilateral exchanges.

He added that the environmental risk against the Caspian Sea is a serious issue that should be taken into account.

The Foreign Ministers of the two countries emphasized fighting against terrorist groups in the region, the threat of extremist groups, and the need for cooperation regarding border waters.
