Taliban says committed to providing Iran's water share

MEHR: Taliban deputy foreign minister for political affairs Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai says that Afghanistan's ruling body is committed to providing Iran's water share from the Hirmand River.

If Hirmand River's water is increased and the challenges of Afghan citizens are resolved in this regard, Iran's water rights will be provided, he said, adding that currently, there is only enough water to meet the needs of Afghan citizens.

The caretaker government of Afghanistan never wants to destroy its relations with Iran because of this issue, he added.

Iran's demands for this water right are based on the treaty reached in 1973 and detailed negotiations have been conducted at different levels in this regard. Iranian officials have always emphasized the correct implementation of the 1973 Hirmand River Treaty between Iran and Afghanistan.
