Iran insists on need for averting broadened war in West Asia

Speaking in a joint press conference with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Tehran on Monday, the top Iranian diplomat said that "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always insisted on avoiding the spillover of war."

"The necessity of safeguarding the security of maritime navigation and shipping is emphasized by Iran, and this issue is also emphasized by the National Salvation Government of Sana'a," he added.

"During a trip 2 weeks ago, one of the high-ranking officials from Sana'a assured us that they would not disturb the maritime security," Amir-Abdollahian also said, adding that "But as long as the war and genocide in Gaza continues, they will act to block the way of the Israeli regime's ships, as well as the ships that go to the Israeli ports."

"The US cannot give us and others a message calling for restraint while at the same time attack Yemen," he said.

"Stop the war against Yemen," Amor-Abdollahian addressed the United States and the United Kingdom. 

The top Iranian diplomat further referred to Iran's relations with India and said that "On the sidelines of the BRICS summit, we emphasized the political will of the two governments to expand cultural, practical, industrial, economic, commercial, tourism and technological cooperation."

He added that both countries agreed to expand bilateral relations based on existing bilateral agreements and documents within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS and also using the existing potentials and capabilities in a favored way.

"India is interested in taking advantage of Iran's geopolitical position that connects India to Afghanistan and Eurasia. We talked about the North-South Corridor and international issues and India's participation in Chabahar Port," the Indian foreign minister said, for his part.

"India has adopted an inviolable stance against terrorism. We believe in preventing civilians from being killed in any conflict. India has already supplied humanitarian aid to Gaza and will do so in the future," Jaishankar said.

"India is very happy with Iran's membership in BRICS. International cooperation between the two countries has existed and continues with strength," the top Indian foreign minister added.
