Iran, Syria FMs call for regional coop. on fighting terrorism

MEHR: The top diplomats of Iran and Syria, in a phone conversation, called for regional cooperation to combat terrorism.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad held a phone conversation on Thursday night over the deadly terrorist attack on Syria's Homs.

The top Iranian diplomat offered condolences to the Syrian president, army, and nation.

Mekdad, for his part, considered the US-backed terrorist groups to be behind such actions.

The two sides also emphasized the need for the international community to have serious determination to fight against the sinister phenomenon of terrorism decisively and effectively.

At least 100 people were killed on Thursday in a drone attack on a military academy in Syria.

Civilians and military personnel were killed in the attack on the military academy in the central province of Homs, Syria's defense ministry said, adding that "terrorist" groups had used drones.

Syria's defense and foreign ministries vowed to respond "with full force".
